Cat Lovers Alert

I got this link and this one from [livejournal.com profile] jodawi, who in turn got them from [livejournal.com profile] ki. I forwarded them to my mother in an effort to protect her poor kitty India from a violent seizure-filled death. My mother wrote back to say that she hasn't used the specific Advanced Care flea control product from Hartz which these websites warn against, but that she tried using a lower strength product ("One Spot") made by the same brand and observed that it "drove India nuts" so she stopped using it and switched to a different brand that didn't make India act weird.

Since I know there are a great many cat lovers on my friends list (and we all know about queer women's affinity for cats . . .), I decided to pass that on.

i love my kitties too much to even let them outside into the flea-ridden world, but thanks for the info anyway. will keep that in mind when i finally win the lotto and start bringing home all the neighbourhood strays.

I've only given Mira the expensive prescription stuff (Advantage), and might consider its competitor (Frontline), but wouldn't go for the supermarket stuff (Hartz). I remember this point about cats reacting poorly from some reports I read a long time ago -- I guess it's good to be reminded to stay away from the cheap stuff in this case. Mira thanks you!

Indoor-only cats *can* get fleas too. You've been lucky so far.

yes, but it's not as common. my parents have had indoor cats for over 20 years and they've never once gotten fleas. :)
