this is a reflection of my age (45) - when I was in high school, there was no internet.

When I left school the abacus was still being used (half
jokingly I say) ;)

When I was in high school there was an internet, but I'd never actually met it.

I expect most people's answers will be reflective of their age, but I hope I can also narrow down a time frame when most schools started acquiring internet access. I'm attempting to write a novel in which the main character's high school should acquire internet access about halfway through, and for various other reasons I want the novel to be set somewhere around 1999-2001, preferably more toward the 2001 end of that spectrum, so I'm trying to check whether that's a realistic time for high schools to be acquiring internet access. She can't have internet access at home either, but my parents didn't get internet access at home until 2000, so I'm figuring that's within reason.

But I finished school in 1994...

When I left school it was 1995... no internet, I discovered it when I went to college later the same year. I still remember looking at my first website and learning how to use a search engine (remembers thrill of anticipation). It was so slow I used to take a book with me to read while the pages downloaded- I'm not joking!

That was the year I graduated from high school too.

I said my school got internet access in 7th grade but it was a bit of a lie - we might have gotten email, but nobody really used it until 8th or 9th, and I don't think that we figured out the Internet until late 8th/early 9th. I started 9th grade in 1994 This was a pretty affluent school, by the way, so I'm pretty sure that's about the earliest all that started being used in high schools.

However, my high school definitely had the Internet by 1999. I was already an Internet addict by then, but mainly just for purposes of email.

Whoa, my high school had at least 50 computers of internet access since at least 1994 (when I entered in 7th grade), so switching at 2000 seems really late.

Oh, you had it good! We had to make our own clay tablets and cut our own styluses.

Kids today don't know how good they have it.

Internet in high school? I think there were about 3 computers total in the whole school, and Al Gore hadn't invented the internet yet.
