Khaled Hosseini

Khaled Hosseini should be secularly sainted. Are there sainthoods granted to writers? He should win the Nobel Prize for Literature and the Nobel Peace Prize and about two thousand other awards besides.

I just finished reading his novel A Thousand Splendid Suns. READ THIS BOOK IMMEDIATELY. Especially if you have a feminist cell anywhere in your body, or an antiwar cell anywhere in your body, or the faintest, slightest interest in Afghanistan or human rights or life or literature or meaningfulness, or if you are any kind of decent or halfway alive human being to any degree. Or if you're not at all decent or alive or a human being of any kind, read it anyway in case it might make you into one.

I haven't read that one yet, but everyone should also read The Kite Runner while they're at it.

Yes, they absolutely should. That one was awe-inducing too, but I think this one is even more so.

Thanks for the book tip. Is he an Afghan writer?

Afghan-American, yes. He's lived in the U.S. since 1980.

i had some real problems with The Kite Runner, though it obviously had its strengths. you think this one is better?

A Thousand Splendid Suns was, indeed, amazing.

That book will stick with me for a long time. Strongest novel i read all year.

Yes! It's amazing. He only gets better. It's definitely one of my favorite books ever.

Definitely. I feel better about the world just knowing there's an author like that in it.
