The Forgotten History of Same-Sex Marriage

So, I'm currently gathering online resources to re-educate my mother and rid her of the more than slightly ridiculously ignorant belief she recently expressed ("assaulted me with," I'm tempted to phrase it) that same-sex marriage is not legal anywhere and never has been. So far, I've found four good websites on same-sex marriage currently, worldwide (plus extra details/documentation on that), historically, in nonwestern cultures, and historically, in premodern western cultures. But I know there's a lot more out there, some of which is much better than what I've got here, so I was hoping some of you could offer suggestions. I'd particularly like to collect as much information as possible on same-sex marriages in long-ago and faraway cultures, because that's what I'm finding it hardest to locate online.

There's a really interesting book about queer social structures in Native American cultures: The Spirit and the Flesh.

of course those cultures were obliterated which your mother will probably take as symptomatic of their sociobiiological inferiority. her argument that it's not legal other places is besides the point anyway. before it was legal in any western nation for women to vote it still SHOULD have been. the u.s. should not always wait for everyone else to socially innovate first. we tend to be way behind the curve on civil rights issues and it looks like this will be no exception.

your mother also has the annoying habit of making assertions based on "i think" or "i assume" without ever having any kind of documentation behind them. it's the worst kind of sloppy thinking.
