Problem with Digicam Already!

Gaah. I don't think my computer has a USB port. It certainly doesn't seem to have any port the size and shape of the thing I'm supposed to plug into it. This would be a problem. Can I get a USB port someplace?

Update: Well, apparently I can . . . but I don't suppose any of you have experience in installing cards into PCI slots in order to add a USB port to a computer? It sort of looks to me like the kind of thing I need to get somebody else to do for me. Which means I should probably just take it into a computer store in town, instead of doing the online shopping thing again. Hmm.

Do you also know what a PCI slot is and how to figure out if I've got one? Because it looks like I need one of those in order for the USB port adapter to work, and it says PCI slots are found on "newer" computers" but I don't know if my 1998 one is "new" enough . . .

*sigh*

1998 should have a number of PCI slots in it unless you've jammed the computer full of gewgaws and gizmos. PCI slots are easy as pie. Open the case, look for the slot as kindly illustrated by your friend above. There should be a little metal plate that covers the hole to the outside of the case. Unscrew the little screw that holds the plate in, slide the edge of the USB card into the slot (this will take some pressure) and use the little screw that was holding the plate in to secure the USB card in place.

The bottom of the USB card should look something like this:

Note the little gap. Make sure that matches up with the little bar-thingy in the PCI slot. Otherwise, you will not be able to get the card properly seated.

Hmm. Maybe I can actually figure out how to do that, then. Much thanks!!!

Actually, I already tried searching Google yesterday, and couldn't make any sense of it at all. Clearly Google likes you better than it likes me. Thanks, though.
