Obligatory Mention of the Day Fast Approaching

The newspaper stand in front of my apartment rental office has a big banner across it saying: "Special September 11th Remembrance Edition Coming Wednesday!"

Oh yes. Dead people, yay! We can sell more newspapers!

Many of the people who died in those towers had quite a lot of experience in capitalist moneymaking. I wonder if any of them actually thought to themselves as they leapt from the high windows, "My death is going to be an incredibly profitable event for some people!"

However, this is the absolute stupidest exploitation of September 11th I've ever seen. And it doesn't even involve moneymaking - which just goes to show that even without monetary motivations, human beings can still be every bit as stupid.

re: your title. Well put. I was just thinking about that, and whether I should acknowledge it somehow or what. I mean, I'm not apathetic, or anything, but I'm not really the big vinyl flag-on-car type, either. Hmm.

patriotic prostitution

i was at a music recital today. all was wonderful except for the last song. they played a two piano, eight hand duet of "stars and stripes forever" as they wore american flag vests. "this is in commemoration of nine-eleven," is how it was introduced. as they were playing the piece, two boys walked out carrying a flag. everyone stood. i stayed seated. america needs to get over this. america needs to get over america. there are so many other countries that this happens to all. the. time. somehow, we are blind to that. we are more offenders than victims. but no one wants to see that either. that email is very and extremely apalling. this note is very and extremely long. isn't there something more productive we could be doing about the terrorist attack? and productive towards another country? we need to stop thinking about ourselves. blah. i loved what you said. short and straight to the point. for now, i must sleep.

post note.

hello, once.

you are quite interesting. the direct hyperlink to your journal didn't work for some reason but i did manage to find it. noticed your original use of the phrase 'patriotic prostitution.' also this is completely beautiful.

"We won't even talk about it if we can help it," I told Katarina last night.

"That sounds absolutely perfect. I'd rather talk about glaciers," she replied.

You have affirmed the wisdom of that idea, Gayle. YUCK!!!!!!!!

heartless-bitches.com's Sappy Site of the Week is ongoing proof of that.
