War

Rarr. Somebody get me a list of exactly which 81 Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives just voted to give Bush his war powers today. I need to mail each of them a large scarlet letter "A" to wear on their chest like Hester Prynne for their ideological adultery.

Not that the antiwar Democrats are actually any less horrifying. Check out The WHITE Side of Senator Byrd, the Antiwar Democrat from West Virginia - "What a fine shape our country is in when an ex-KKK member is one of the strongest voices of reason," as [livejournal.com profile] jodawi summed it up.

Also from [livejournal.com profile] jodawi: Read about the mass arrests, beatings, hog-tyings and jailings of antiwar protestors in Washington, D.C. here and here and here.

Never forget that cops are the enforces of corporate rule. They are here to "protect and serve" not the citizenry, but their corporate masters. The people who were beaten, laughed at and detained won't forget.

Neither should we.

roll call...

Thank you!

I'd not know this about Senator Byrd, thanks for the (highly disturbing) info. So, I guess that the bottom line is that the Republicans are the enemies of freedom and humanity and the Democrats aren't much better - Canada looks better every day.

At least one Oregon Senator and all the Oregon Representatives voted against the war, this state may be a bastion of safety against the coming troubles (and I'm certain they are coming :(

YAHR, i know-- when i initially heard it was BYRD spearheading the senate anti-war folks i did one of those "GO BYR-- er, wait... ohmm!" things.

i'm reasonably not-good with retaining political facts, so i resort to posting little flags in my head next to certain words or names, and up until then the only flag next to Byrd's name was the too-often used "KKK-ties" one. weeeird.

GAH!!!!!!

How did I not know about Byrd's KKK days? How did I miss that?

Gah.

Actually, in reading the comment about Senator Byrd again, I'm somewhat inclined to be less certain of the accuracy of this article because the article does come from an Ayn Rand oriented publication, which does not in my opinion bode well for the veracity of their information. I'm not saying that the article is wrong, but it's IMHO more likely to be wrong than if it came from another source.
