Taxes

The odds that I'm not a wholly irresponsible person are improving!

My taxes are done.

It didn't take half the amount of time I feared it would, either. Unlike in past years, everyone had actually sent me the correct and complete forms that I needed and they all permitted me to use only the simple forms, rather than requiring that I download more complicated ones from the internet and spend all weekend attempting to figure out what they all mean.

Now that I've finished my taxes, I've given myself permission to resume reading Gore Vidal's historical novel Julian, about the Roman Emperor Julian who wanted to eradicate Christianity, at the same time that the Christians were trying to eradicate Julian's religion (he worshipped the Greek gods), which eventually culminated in the Christians eradicating Julian himself. I must say, anyone who enjoys seeing Christianity insulted will totally love this book.

I do not know what I would do with myself if my mother hadn't worked for H&R Block once upon a time. Once she's no longer able to help me with my taxes, I will probably be in big trouble.

Mine suck this year, though. My payment is like, $20 more than what my return will be because of NYC residence. But, oh well... I don't mind it as much as I could, I guess. I'm a liberal, I love paying taxes. ;)

p.s.: {{{{{{{you}}}}}}} Have you read Vidal’s Live From Golgatha? it’s another one of his extremely entertaining takes on Christianity (and its modern incarnation).

Yes, I read that one when I was in college and loved it, too. In this one my favorite line is how he keeps saying how immoral Christians are because they believe they're free to commit any sin they like as long as they wash it off with a sprinkling of water afterward.

Yay for uncomplicated taxes!

*rejoices*

My taxes just had me fill out a simple form. I was scared at first, but it was pretty simple. I'm exempt from state and federal taxes; I only pay social security and medicare, so it was easy.
