Breast Feeding a Baby Is Child Molest!
I stole this from
cantstopthedawn, who found it here:
Take, for example, this case of a woman arrested for taking in film for processing that included a picture of her breast feeding a child:Rodrigo Fernandez was one year old. I found more information here.Their most pressing problem was the breast-feeding picture, which the indictment characterized as sexual, "to wit; actual lewd exhibition of...a portion of the female breast below the top of the areola, and the said defendant did and then employ, authorize and induce Rodrigo Fernandez, a child younger than 18 years of age, to engage in said sexual conduct and sexual performance."You read that right: she was arrested for child pornography and for compelling a child to engage in a sexual performance, and they tried to take her kids away from her. There is a truly warped, perverted, sexually decadent strain running through this country, and it ain't represented by women breast feeding their children.

However, I do support the use of the death penalty in situations where it is not possible to reliably imprison someone instead: e.g., if a tiny revolutionary group miraculously overthrew the U.S. government, it would be highly unlikely that they could hold onto their power long enough to be able to ensure that they could reliably keep George W. Bush imprisoned for the rest of his life, so it would be unreasonable to expect them not to use capital punishment.

What I'm saying, I guess, is that people who are willing to do things like that are people whose lives I do not value. And when I say it like that the UU in me gets all guilty and stuff, so I guess I just mean society should have a strong, unambiguous response to things like this so that they don't happen anymore. But being rational about it doesn't really relieve my emotional reactions to such acts.
Maybe if we had a really good killing-people simulator, and people like that could be publicly shamed by having their avatars added to the simulator library [in addition to being locked up and treated until they reform or die of old age], that would be the right compromise.

in one of the articles, the point about how the only reason this has gone so far is because the family is poor is right on.

I'm livid.
Many states have implemented policies that keep children with severely physical abusive families at all costs, even though many of these families have beaten their child so severely as to cause permanent disfigurement and/or life-threatening injuries to their children. They just get checked up on by social services a lot. I was shocked to learn this, but a researcher in Michigan apparently uses state records of such families to do his research on the emotional development of severely abused children. All of the children in his studies are still with their abusive caretakers.
And then they arrest a (Latina) woman for taking a picture of her engaging in, not only a pretty univerally accepted human practice, but in fact a pretty universal mammalian practice, with her son (who, incidentally, is not even too old to be breast-feeding, even though this particular child is weaned- many cultures breast-feed for 18 months or more), and somehow this causes all of her children to be taken away??????
If anyone thinks that this is in any way short of attempted cultural genocide, I'd like to hear it. It reminds me a bit too strongly of the Australian practice of forcibly taking Aborigine children away from their families.
