Everything I Hear Sounds Faint and Muffled

Both my ears have been plugged all day today. Yesterday only one of my ears was plugged, but today it's both of them. This causes me to poke and prod at them continually in a futile effort to unplug them, which has absolutely no effect whatsoever. Not even the very tiniest momentary effect! I've never known my ears to be so uninterruptedly plugged for so long. This clearly implies that I'm sick. But I do not feel sick. There's nothing the slightest bit wrong with me other than the fact that both of my ears are quite hopelessly plugged.

It's really rather startling to find out just how annoying the loss of an actually quite insignificant amount of body function can be, even in the absence of any pain or physical discomfort of any kind.

It is funny what we take for granted. I hope your ears unplug soon.

Sending ear-uinplugging vibes.
I get that too and it is SO ANNOYING. Sometimes there is so little you can do about it.
Not to be disgusting, but if the cause is anything to do with wax rather than sinus, please do not poke the ear as you will impact it and make it worse.

But to be honest I always poke and prod at them as well so I am some kind of hypocrite :-)

Have you tried holding your nose and trying to blow out? That works for me. Decongestants should help too.

I would expect that to make it worse, not better; but I can't put it to the test since I woke up this morning with my ears no longer plugged, and they haven't been plugged since.

Holding your nose and blowing out tends to pop your ears when you otherwise can't. I was taught to do it while on airplanes, and I've also heard that scuba divers do it. Though if it fails it tends to make it feel worse, that's true.

Well, look at the bright side, you could have my problems. My physical sensitivity doesn't allow me to adapt to that, and even one clogged ear leads to headaches, dizziness, nausea, and sometimes even a partial loss of speech and motor abilities.

Still, if it's prolonged you might want a doctor to look.

I'll have you know that you are one of the resons why I have gotten into wikipedia.

Oh? What kinds of topics have you been editing?

[identity profile] normlessness.livejournal.com 2005-03-22 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, so far I have only edited a few (and nothing profound yet, I am trying to make myself more bold at it).

So far I have edited an article about the Dollar General. It said that there are no items in the store over $20. I think whoever wrote that misunderstood the website because there are stuff over $20, but it is not standard items.

There is an article in there about Karl Marx I am thinking about adding in my two cents. In one place it said that he felt that a peaceful revolution would be unlikely, in another place it talks about how people disagreed with him saying that a bloody revolution is the only way. Marx did not say that the bloody revolution is the only way, but to Marx it was the most likely way (after all, how likely is it that the capitalist will just GIVE their stuff away?) So, the article as a whole was accurate, but that one part could be misleading.

I am also thinking about writing a lot about social conflict theory, since the article in there about that is SEVERELY underdeveloped.
