Search Terms Meme

I think the best LiveJournal memes are always the ones that allow me to spy on other people's activities - with their permission, but without them having known at the time they were actually conducting the activities that they would later be making such activities public. For that reason, I must definitely promote this one. It works like this: Go to the Google homepage, or the homepage of whatever search engine you use most often. Type the letter A into the search box, and let the AutoComplete function suggest search terms you've searched for before that began with that letter. Write them down. Repeat for each letter of the alphabet. Then show other people what you've been searching for.

(I also typed in a quotation mark and distributed the AutoComplete suggestions for that throughout the alphabet, because I just can't get enough of being spied upon.)

Most of those make sense, but "yoke oxen"?

Starting an Oregon Trail, are we?

[identity profile] queerbychoice.livejournal.com 2005-08-14 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. ;-) Actually, there was a sentence about oxen in a language usage quiz somewhere, about distinguishing the spellings of "yolk" and "yoke," and I thought the sentence demonstrating correct usage of "yoke" looked odd because it referred to multiple oxen and multiple yokes. So I looked up yoke and oxen out of curosity about whether multiple yokes would actually be needed.

I did a Livejournal entry on this once...The LJ cut for it said something like "Sometimes I'm scared that people will look at my past google searches, because then they'll find proof that I'm insane."

Examples of past searches:

whitefly vaseline
redonculous
redass game rules
christian raptured novels
truck balls
tuskegee syphillis experiment
OMGWTFBBQ
peep research
pope fester
androgel
aquabats midget pirates
spaceballs barf
dog nipples (Ok this one looks especially weird but I was trying to find out how many a dog is supposed to have, since my friend's dog has eleven)
giant isopods
lesbian eskimo midget albino
men's underwear
metal sporks
bean curd sticks
bunny suicide
chuggy pig

there's a lot of other search terms (most normal, and some very strange) but I'll spare ya ;)

But I don't want to be spared! I like looking at other people's search terms.

And what was the "pope fester" search about?

[identity profile] kejlina.livejournal.com 2005-08-15 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, after Ratzinger was elected Pope, I saw a post on a message board like a day later that compared him to Uncle Fester, and had photos to show similarities. But then I forgot where I had seen it, and I wanted to show it to someone later on....so I tried googling it, but to no avail.

Mine are surprisingly boring, having mostly to do with food, restaurants and the occasional theater production. I also notice that I'm almost too lazy to bookmark anything, using google to link to things that I go to often, like the local library, etc. 'S' was my most used first letter. Mainly because I live and work in San Jose.:

act theater Dark Rider
Alameda Hornet
Animal Rescue San Jose
Big Sky peppered walnuts
Calvin Hobbes black hand of death club
City Lights Theater San Jose
Cantankerous Fish
doghouse san francisco lindy
donate fur
Elvis San Jose Theater
food allergies carrots hiccups
Gausian plot
hair cancer kids
improve posture
isn't it the very essense of practicality
Jane Austen stick
lemon pudding cake
midlands weather
nice
pain management poetry
peppered pecans
Pride and prejudice trailer
raised by hand pip
scythes cut grass mexico
san jose state university ballroom dance club
san jose public library
stanford blood
Shakespeare in the Park
The truth shall set you free
USDA exercise guidelines
vintage stoves
walkies grommet
"make me sick and wicked"

Not everything. Believe it or not, that was the more interesting stuff. Nothing even remotely obscene. Of course this is my work computer, but I don't expect the home computer to be a lot more exciting.
