Notice They Don't Know How to Spell "Hijack" . . .

Did you know that a bomb dropped on Afghanistan had the words "HIGH JACK THIS FAGS" written on it?

"Legal Aid Group Condemns Anti-Gay Graffiti Written on American Bomb"

Also:

"Fundamentalist Christian Terrorism, Anthrax, Abortion Clinics, and the Media"

Thanks to Chrisomatic for both frightening links.

Hmm...do we have any way to verify these articles, Gayle? They just seemed a bit...uhm...y'know?

common dreams (who apparently is being hailed by utne as an earth shaking online publication) is usually accurate, and there's a picture of the graffiti scrawled on the bomb. whether it was used is questionable, but nonetheless it asks the same questions already being asked about the military's homophobic tendencies.

i mean, the ban on homosexuals in the military was lifted during the gulf war and then put back shortly thereafter, and they'll probably do the same thing again.

My friend Frank Aqueno has written a very enlightening tale of how much trouble he had trying to get himself rejected by the military in the Vietnam War. He eventually succeeded, but only at the cost of getting himself investigated by the FBI, who in turn informed the school district where he was employed as an English teacher that he was queer, and the school district then immediately launched an attempt to revoke his teaching credential, which they did not succeed at but they did fire him from the school he had been working for.

The story is included in his play "The Pursuit of Happiness" and starts about 1/3 of the way down the page (search for the words "I write my draft board").

By the way, all this happened after Frank had also already been expelled from Florida State University for getting caught by the police accepting a proposition from a plainclothes male police officer. Life was not good for queers in those days. Definitely not good at all.

I've found CommonDreams.org to be extremely reliable. As to the other one - the weblog - it provided a link to verify the part about last year's Anthrax threats against Planned Parenthood, and you can verify the remainder of it here.

Because that English-Language, American-slang hate message will surely scare Afghanistan into submission... no wonder I feel so safe and loved in my country. ::eyes roll::
