I just mailed a huge package to Imp for her Midwinter gift. It was originally intended to be a small gift, because I saw something for sale that had "I need to be given to Imp" written all over it (it's a surprise, but I've already told her it has an Allen Ginsberg theme . . . but it's not his poetry or his journals or a biography of him or any of the things you'd jump to the conclusion that an Allen Ginsberg-themed gift would be). But anyway, it turned out I didn't have any small enough boxes, so I used a huge box and then grabbed everything in sight and stuffed it all into the box as extra presents. And then as soon as the box was full I dragged it all off to the post office. Unfortunately, postage to Scotland from California is rather expensive so I chose the cheapest postal rate which means it will arrive in approximately 2006 (um, and hopefully at Midwinter). But anyway, that's what I did today. It was great fun.

And now back to reading Fyodor Dostoevsky's The Idiot. I'm on page 273 (which means I still have a very long way to go).

Woohoo now I have something to be excited about :) My brother once sent me a Midwinter present by sea-mail from Japan and it got here in February. Let me know how The Idiot works out for you, because I very nearly swiped it from the school library today.

something was brought to my attention that i thought you would be intriged by..

i live in harrisburg, pa and a controversy has rose at one of the Giant grocery stores here...i was sitting in 2nd period today and this guy in my class who works there told me that when he worked on sunday, they had a sign posted "GIANT HONORS BLACK HISTORY MONTH: FRIED CHICKEN ON SALE." he thought this was very racist

i live in harrisburg, pa and a controversy has rose at one of the Giant grocery stores here...i was sitting in 2nd period today and this guy in my class who works there<Giant> told me that when he worked on sunday, they had a sign posted "GIANT HONORS BLACK HISTORY MONTH: FRIED CHICKEN ON SALE." he thought this was very racist<he's white> and i was furious. i was going to stop by there on my way to work and i was listening to the radio, apparently a black man called up and cussed and fussed about it and the one DJ didn't think anyone would have a reason to be upset. my god, as soon as i heard this, i stopped by Giant to see what it said, the sign had already been taken down and replaced with GIANT HONORS BLACK HISTORY MONTH: TRY ??? CHINESE FOOD! now...i dont think that was any better...i'm going to post all this in my journal.
wait, i'm listening to it now, the guy who complained about it is on the radio right now, he said when he walked n the Giant, the manager kinda "blew him off and said the he didn't understand why he was offended." the manger also gave him a number of some advertisment lady. tsk...this is what the world is coming to.
